Anyway, this new one’s got him poking around in all the usual—fame, identity crises, reinventing himself for the millionth time. The dude’s basically in therapy with a synth-pop beat.
Musically? You get the usual R&B/synthy stuff, but then he throws in some Brazilian funk and trap, plus, wait for it, collabs with Anitta, Travis Scott, Lana Del Rey, and—outta nowhere—Giorgio Moroder. It’s like he spun the collab wheel and just went with it.
If you’re the type who needs bonus content (and honestly, who isn’t?), there’s the 00XO Edition—digital only, of course—where you get two extra tracks, “Runaway” and “Society.” Those songs dig even deeper into the album’s story, like little Easter eggs for the fans who actually listen past track 20 (bless you).
When it dropped, the album went straight to number one on Billboard 200. No surprise there. Fifth time for him. The numbers? Nuts. Nearly half a million album-equivalent units in week one, plus a ridiculous amount of streams and old-school album sales. Dude also topped charts in 16 other countries—Canada, France, the U.K., the works.
And, because he just can’t chill, there’s a whole psychological thriller movie coming out May 16, 2025, called Hurry Up Tomorrow (same name, keeping it easy for us). Trey Edward Shults is directing, and The Weeknd stars alongside Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan. If that cast doesn’t get you interested, I don’t know what will.
The 00XO Edition kinda wraps up this whole trilogy thing in style—lots of sound, lots of drama, and honestly, it’s The Weeknd at his most extra.
